What Information Improves the Recommendation?

The selector becomes more useful as the shipment record gets more specific. These details change the outcome most.

Frequently Asked Freight Mode Questions

What is the difference between FTL and LTL freight?

Full truckload uses a trailer for one shipment and moves directly from pickup to delivery. LTL shares trailer space with other shippers and moves through terminals, which adds handling. LTL is often used for smaller palletized freight, while FTL is used when the load fills a trailer or handling must be avoided. Which one prices better depends on the lane, the carrier and the shipment profile, so both should be reviewed rather than assumed.

When is partial truckload the better option?

Partial truckload is commonly reviewed when a shipment is too large or too handling-sensitive for a comfortable LTL quote but does not fill a trailer. It usually means fewer touches than LTL because the freight is not run through a terminal network the same way. Availability depends on the lane and on what trailer space a carrier already has committed.

Does temperature-controlled freight have to move full truckload?

No. Temperature control is an equipment decision, not a service mode decision. Refrigerated capacity exists in LTL, partial, full truckload and expedited structures. The selector treats them separately, so a protect-from-freeze load can still return an LTL or partial recommendation with reefer equipment.

How is port drayage different from a normal truckload move?

Drayage moves an ocean or rail container between a terminal and a nearby facility using a chassis. It involves terminal appointments, container availability, chassis provisioning and free-time exposure such as demurrage and per diem. It is a distinct service from standard LTL or truckload and should not be quoted as one.

What if the pickup or delivery site has no loading dock?

Freight can still move, but the loading method changes the service. Without a dock, the shipment usually needs a liftgate, a forklift supplied at the site, ramps, or a crane depending on weight and dimensions. Those requirements should be identified before the quote so the carrier assigns suitable equipment.

How are urgent or recovery shipments handled?

Urgent freight generally moves outside shared networks, using dedicated or expedited capacity so the load is not scheduled around other freight. Long-distance urgent moves may also require a team review. Availability and timing must be confirmed with a coordinator; the tool does not promise a transit time.

Is intermodal always cheaper for long-haul freight?

No. Intermodal can be worth reviewing for long-haul, container-compatible freight with flexible timing, but it adds rail scheduling and drayage at both ends. It is presented here only as a review option, never as an automatic saving.

Why does a coordinator still have to confirm the result?

The selector applies published planning logic to the answers provided. It cannot see live capacity, carrier tariffs, equipment availability, commodity restrictions or lane conditions. Final mode, equipment, capacity, rate and transit are confirmed in writing by a coordinator before anything is booked.
